Objective:Edentulous jaw is a common condition encountered in clinical practice. Complete denture can partly recover patients’masticatory function and improve their facial contour. However, patients who wearing conventional dentures (CD) always have various complaints, including instability of the mandibular denture and masticatory dysfunction. Implant-supported overdentures (IOD) offer better stability and retention and satisfactory clinical results. Therefore, this article will emphasize to compare patients’satisfaction with CD and IOD in atrophic mandible, and to provide references for clinical practice.Methods:17patients with atrophic mandible were chosen.8subjects with CD and9subjects with IOD were investigated by using the patient denture satisfaction questionnaire. The data were analyzed by wilcoxon test. Results:IOD groups usually have many times or years of prosthodontic experience and high expectations. They need more post-delivery settings. The overall satisfaction of IOD group was significantly higher than that of CD group (P<0.05). The satisfaction with retention and comfort of IOD group was obviously higher than that of CD group (P<0.025), while the satisfaction with masticatory function and outward appearance of the two groups had no significant difference (P>0.05) Conclusion:Implant-supported overdentures provide better prosthodontic outcomes and higher satisfaction than conventional dentures in atrophic mandible, and yet, practitioners should make sure a fully informed consent has given before clinical practices.
