Objective:To investigate and understand the condition of follow-up visits and its influence on life quality of patients with Rectal Cancer discharged from Hospital in Luzhou city, so as to provide basis for the further work of follow-up visits. Method:With methods of Simple random sampling, there were5hospital sampled from the hospitals of level2B and above; and then from which surviving patients with rectal cancer discharged from January1,2008to December31,2013were carried out investigation. Self-designed questionnaire was adopted to study their informations such as age, gender, place of residence, history of treatment, actual situation of follow-up, the demand of follow-up, the choice of institutions and methods of follow-up; and a Life Quality Scale suitable for the local patients with rectal cancer in Luzhou was prepared according to EORTC QLQ-C30, QLICP-CR, QLQ-CR38, QLQ-CR68and other Life Quality Scales for patients with rectal cancer to investigate their quality of life (QOL) such as physical function, mental function and social function. Besides, the collected data was carried out Statistical analysis after collated, and the analysis of variance was adopted for the measurement data of comparison among the various groups; t-test of randomized block design was used for two groups; and%test was employed for count data. Results:①Follow-up visits. Only103patients (37.05%of278) received follow-up visits; 278patients (100%of278) were willing to receive follow-up visits;②Demand for follow-up of patients.there were no statistically significant differences between the choice rate towards follow-up organizations (x2=0.139, P=0.710), the choice rate including large hospital and community health service institution based on two-way referral system was85.97%and87.05%; there were statistically significant differences among the choice rate towards follow-up methods (x2=67.464, P<0.001), the choice rate including telephone follow-up, community follow-up, outpatient follow-up and home follow-up, was96.04%,88.49%,75.90%and72.66%respectively from high to low;③QOL score of the patients.Mean value of total score was-51.84±8.01, and the scores can be ranked successively as physical function with the score of-49.78±7.39, mental function of-59.75±36.33, and social function of-68.99±30.89respectively from high to low; the score of older patients was lower than younger (F=27.139, P<0.001), the score of colostomy patients was lower than non colostomy patients (t=14.782, P<0.001), the score of patients lived in rural areas was lower than patients lived in urban areas (t=7.770, P<0.001), the score of patients with lower education level was lower than patients with higher education level (F=11.279, p<0.001), the score of patients discharged recently from hospital was lower than patients discharged longer time (F=7.709, p<0.001);④The influence of follow-up on patients quality of life.the score of patients never received follow-up was lower than patients once received follow-up (t=4.662,P<0.001). Conclusion:①Follow-up visits conducted for patients with rectal cancers after their discharge could improve the QOL. Hospitals should establish perfect follow-up system, set up special departments to carry out follow-up work, enchance health education especially the content of the importance of follow-up to patients and their famillies while in hospital; and keep in touch with the patients after they discharge from hospital, and take appropriate follow-up methods according to the specific circumstances of patients, to improve the rate of follow-up and try to improve the follow-up service;②The social function and psychological function is the major project of the further follow-up visits, and the patients in rural area, in rechanneling stoma group, with low educational level, with higher ages and with closer discharge time shall be regarded as focus groups in follow-up visits;③Patients had higher recognition degree towards community follow-up based on two-way referral system, so the hospitals shall reinforce its cooperation and connection with medical and health service institutions in communities and intensify the technical guidance on the community medical and health service institutions so as to improve the professional skill of community health service institutions and personal professional quality, enhance the follow-up visits ability of the community health service institutions, keep contact with patients through two-way referral, and then the follow-up visits for the rectal cancer patients discharged form hospital will be done well together.
