Surgical Treatment Of Intracerebral Cavernous Angiomas Presenting Epileptic Seizures

Objective:To study surgical method for management of the intracerebralcavernous angiomas with epilepsy.Methods:By retrospectively analyzing28patients of intracerebral cavernousangiomas with epilepsy received from August2009to August2014inthe2nddepartment of Neurosurgery of the China–Japan union hospital,remission and other related factors of epilepsy were compared betweenthe patients who got complete resection of lesion of intracerebralcavernous angiomas (including the zone of glial scar and Hemosiderinat the periphery of angiomas), the patients who got complete resectionof lesion of intracerebral cavernous angiomas+cortexthermocoagulation and the patients who got partial Lobotomy.Results:The epilepsy remission of patients who got complete resection oflesion of intracerebral cavernous angiomas+cortex thermocoagulationwere obviously much better than the ones who got complete resectionof lesion of intracerebral cavernous angiomas or the ones who gotcomplete resection of lesion of intracerebral cavernous angiomas+partial Lobotomy. The epilepsy remission of the patients who were with less than1year course of epilepsy obviously got better than the ones with morethan1year’s course after surgery.Conclusion:1.A surgical treatment should be performed as soon as possible tothe patients who got the intracerebral cavernous angiomas withepilepsy.2.For the patients who got the intracerebral cavernous angiomaswith epilepsy, a complete resection of lesions (including the zone ofglial scar and Hemosiderin at the periphery of hemangioma) should beperformed with cortex thermocoagulation.
