| Objective:To analyze the factors affecting the clinical outcomes of surgical operation in patients with focal cortical dysplasia (FCD)-related intractable epilepsy (IE). We hope to provide reference and guidance for clinical treatment to the patients. Methods:We retrospectively analyzed surgical outcomes of 61 patients with FCD-related IE in The First Teaching Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from December 2009 to December 2012. With the prognosis as the dependent variable, and We define Engel class â… as a good prognosis, â…¡,â…¢,â…£ as a poor prognosis. With the 7 factors as independent variables including age, race, gender, brain MRI, whether complete resection, the location of epileptogenic zone, whether interictal epileptiform discharge (IED)-lesion match. Results:All cases were followed up for 1-3 years. There are 5 cases with intracranial infection,1 case with Permanent neurological dysfunction, 1case with hydrocephalus and with no deaths after operation 42 patients (68.8%) were Engel class â… ,29 (16.4%) class â…¡, 5 (8.2%) class â…¢,4 (8.2%) class â…£. Logistic regression showed that FCD type â… , incomplete resection and IED-lesion mismatch were independent prognostic factors. Age, race, gender, pathological subtype, brain MRI and the location of epileptogenic zone were not prognostic factors after surgery in patients with FCD-related IE.Conclusion:Overall, the surgical outcome of FCD is favorable The prognosis is related with many factors. FCD type â…¡, complete resection and IED-lesion match significantly associated with favorable surgical outcome. |
