A Survey On Mental Health And Life Quality Of Schizophrenia Patients’ Relatives

BackgroundSchizophrenia, a complexity of knotty, is a kind of refractory mental illness in clinic. Especially, it brings great harm in the episodes to the patient, their families and the society. In recent years, the number of patients with schizophrenia has been increasing in our country, and many families bear a heavy burden on this disease. People holds serious prejudice in patients with schizophrenia, causing that patients’ families prone to feeling bad psychological emotions of inferiority and shame. Thus it will seriously affect their quality of life, so to understand the mental health and quality of life of the people not only can be targeted to social support, but also can be a good treatment and rehabilitation of patients with schizophrenia.ObjectiveBased on the statistical analysis of the quality of life of family members of patients with schizophrenia, we summarize the psychological status and the quality of life of family members of schizophrenic patients, aimed to provide scientific theory on psychological help and social help.MethodsA study of 65 cases:we select victims’ family members confirmed by the Shengli oilfield rehabilitation center for mental health clinic for treatment of schizophrenia during February 2013 to August 2013, and use self-made general questionnaire of the family members’ information and symptom check list questionnaire (SCL-90), as well as the world health organization quality of life scale (WHOQOL-100) to study on the impact factor on conducting the psychological health and the quality of life of family members of schizophrenic patients.Results1. each index of family members of schizophrenic patients in the SCL-90 scores is higher than the national norm, and the mental health of patients’ families members have significant difference in different gender (P<0.01). Women’s mental health score values are higher than the male’s, suggesting that the female’s mental health of patients’ families is worse. The anxiety factor and hostile factor, horror factor, psychotic factor of women are significantly higher than male.The mental health of different patients’ families have significant difference (P< 0.001), and the parents group in interpersonal relationship, anxiety factor, the relationship between the terror factors are significantly higher than other groups; Spouse group in force factor and depression factor, mental factor is higher than the other group; Children groups in terms of paranoid factor is higher than any other relationship groups; Parents, children, and spouses group significantly higher than the compatriots in terms of hostile factor. The results of multiple comparison show that the mental health status of the parents of the worst, followed by the children and spouse, but the mental health status of the compatriots is the best. Different kinds of health care of patients’ family members of mental health have significant difference (P< 0.05); Uninsured patients’ families is poor in mental health.2. Compared with national norm of the families of patients with schizophrenia, the indicators of quality of life (QOL) index is low, and the quality of life of patients’ families in different gender have significant difference (P< 0.05), the male’s quality of life score value is higher than women; Relationship between different patients’ families is remarkable differences in quality of life (P< 0.001). Multiple comparison results show that every factor score of the parent group is lower than that in group children, spouse group and fellow group. That is, the parent group has the worst quality of life.Conclusion and suggestionThe life quality and mental health status of patients’ families with schizophrenia have extremely remarkable difference with normal people; the female member, parents and spouse of the family is lower than other family members in the mental health status and quality of life. Schizophrenia patients will go through a very long treatment process, may be need a lifelong treatment. Therefore, family plays a very important role and endures a lot of pressure. To get better effect in the process of treatment and control of patients with schizophrenia, we also need to attach importance to this part of the family members of psychology and the quality of life, and to seek more pertinently attention and social support.
