ObjectiveAccording to observe the total and individual score changes of Short-form McGill pain Questionnaires by noncyclical breast pain patients whom receive Er’xian scripture or tamoxifen, to find an effective therapy for noncyclical mastalgia and clinical evidences for the treatment of noncyclical breast pain by Traditional Chinese Medicine.MethodsIn an randomized controlled observation, patients with noncyclical br east pain receive tamoxifen 10mg bid,or an er’xian scripture daily for 2 8 days then followed up every four weeks for Short-form McGill pain Quest ionnaires score and adverse events. Compare with the score of each items on SF-MPQ and the total score between er’xian scripture and tamoxifen, be fore and after the treatment. Adverse effect will write down as case repo rts.Results1. The total score of SF-MPQ before and after treatmeat with er’xian tang are 50.64±18.33 and 19.40±16.96, which statistically significant difference(P<0.01). This result suggest that, er’xian tang and tamoxifen can reduce noncycalial breast pain effectively.2. The total score of SF-MPQ before and after treatmeat with tamoxifen are54.29±23.12 and 9.43±16.25, which statistically significant difference(P<0.01).This result suggest that, er’xian tang and tamoxifen can reduce noncycalial breast pain effectively.3. The PRI, VAS and PPI on SF-MPQ before and after treatment with Er’ xian scripture are 4.60±2.16and 1.72±1.24,43.96±17.21 and 16.56±15.87,2.08 ±0.86 and 1.12±0.73, which statistically significant differences(P P<0.01). It means that er’xian tang can lower the level of pain and the strength of pain.4. The PRI, VAS and PPI on SF-MPQ before and after treatment with Er’xian scripture are 4.64±2.69 and 0.82±1.25,47.56±6.63 and 8.06±14.72,2.09 ±0.54 and 0.55±0.69, which statistically significant differences(P P<0.01). It means that tamoxifen can lower the level of pain and the strength of pain.5. The total score between each time shows either er’xian scripture or tamoxifen drop linely (P=0.00), in the same rhythm (P=0.54), and no interaction effect (P=0.71).It suggests that Er’xian scripture and tamoxifen are all effect therapy to relieve noncyclical mastalgia quickly and in the same rhythm.6. The score of PRI feeling part with Er’xian tang is 1.24±0.83, whereas patients with tamoxifen is 0.55±0.69, which suggest tamoxifen can relieve present pain intensity and the experience of pain effectively than Er’xian tang.7. Ningteen of 25 patients receiving er’xian scripture and ten of 11 patients receiving tamoxifen responded to the treatment, with reduction in breast pain score of more than 50%. The response rate for Er’xian scripture(76%) and which for tamoxifen are not statistically significant(P >0.05).It means Er’xian tang can relieve noncyclical breast pain as well as tamoxifen.8. There is no side effect reported in Er’xian scripture. therefore four patients with tamxifen reported side effect as weak, the recurrence of mastalgia and changes of menorrhea.Conclusion1. Er’xian scripture effectively relieves noncyclical mastalgia. In ad dition Er’xian tang therapy dose not report side effect. Therefore, it i s a feasible therapy for noncyclical mastalgia.2. tamoxifen can reduce noncyclical breast pain but with adverse effec t. The adverse effect of tamoxifen are changes of menorrhea and weakness.3. Evaluate noncyclical mastalgia by Short-form McGill pain Questionna ires is effective and comprehensive.
