The Parasenecio roborowskii belongs to the genus Parasenecio tribe Senecioneae Cass family Compositae. It is a perennial herbaceous plant and mainly distributed in Shanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan Provinces in China. In China,26 species of Parasenecio family has long been used as traditional Chinese medicine for the function of removing blood stasis, cleaning heat and detoxcating, anti-inflammatory, anti-tussive, the dehumidifying effect, and so on. The root of Parasenecio roborowskii tastes sweet and its function is mild, which can be used as medicine to relieve spasm, nourish the liver, as well as treat endogenous wind disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. In this thesis, we made phytochemical studies on the whole plant of P. roborowskii from Huzhu County, Qinghai Province.41 Compounds were isolated based on various separation techniques, including silica gel column chromatography, MCI chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 chromatography, RP-18 column chromatography, preparative thin layer chromatography, and high performance liquid chromatography.40 Compounds were elucidated as six eudesmane sesquiterpenes, five eremophilane sesquiterpenes, a clovane sesquiterpene, an adakane monoterpene, two friedlane triterpenes, three cycloartane triterpenes, a lupine triterpene, five sterols, two cumarins, two lignans, two quinic acid derivatives, five phenylpropanoids, four benzene derivatives, and a linoleic acid glyceride, based on spectroscopic methods, including 1D and 2D NMR, UV, IR, ESI, HRESIMS and combination with comparison to the literature data or standard samples. Amomg of them, there were three new eremophilane sesquiterpene lactones and a new eudesmane sesquiterpene. In this thesis, we reviewed on the structures and bioactivities of the guaiane-type sesquiterpene isolated from compositae published among recent fifteen years from 1999 to 2015.The research of the phytochemistry in the thesis is expected to provide scientific basis for Chinese traditional medicines and screening of new medicines. This study is also expected to provide benefits for utilizing and developing the natural plant resources of our country.
