Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the alteration of fasting plasma glucose, hemoglobin A1C, triglyceride, total cholesterol and serum uric acid after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery or Billroth II surgery and investigate the underlying mechanisms concerning these effects.Methods:Ninety-seven patients from FuZhou general hospital were included in this retrospective study from 2008.7 to 2014.7. Fasting plasma glucose, hemoglobin A1C, triglyceride, total cholesterol and serum uric acid were measured before the surgery and 3,6 month after the surgery. Results:Fasting plasma glucose, hemoglobin AlC, triglyceride significantly decreased 3,6 months after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. Total cholesterol, significantly decreased 6 month after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. Fasting plasma glucose, hemoglobin AlC, triglyceride and total cholesterol significantly decreased 6 months after Billroth II surgery. There is no significant change in serum uric acid and BMI for both surgeries. Fasting plasma glucose, hemoglobin A1C, triglyceride, and total cholesterol for Roux-en-Y is significantly lower than Billroth II surgery at 6 month. Conclusions: In patients with T2DM who suffered from gastric cancer, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery will ameliorate type 2 diabetes mellitus and its related dyslipidemia. Billroth II surgery shows some improvments on glucose and lipid metabolism, but such effects are inferior compared with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. There is no alteration for serum uric acid for both groups. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery is superior to Billroth II surgery.
