ObjectiveTo analyze and investigate the clinical effect of percutaneous vertebroplasty in the treatment of metastatic vertebral tumor. Methods38 patients with metastatic vertebral tumor were treated with percutaneous vertebroplasty and diphosphonate. 30 patient with metastatic vertebral tumor were treated with diphosphonate only. With the help of the C-arm fruoroscopy bone cement was injected into the affected vertebral bodies and to analysis the effect of pain relief after operation. ResultsThe procedures was successful in 62 vertebroplasty via a unipedicular. The bone cement injected in the operations from 3ml to 5ml. Statistically significant difference in VAS scores existed between pretherapeutic data and ones after treatment(P<0.05). Statistically significant difference in ODI scores existed between data with operations and ones without operations(P<0.05). ConclusionPercutaneous vertebroplasty for the treatment of melaslatic turmors in the lumbar and thoracic spine provides less injury, obvious sedalive effect, good patient’s compliance. It prevents diseased vertebrae from further fracture and compression. It results in improved quality of life with satisfactory efficacy compared with diphosphonate.
