Purpose:This study was designed to explore the clinical outcome ofimplant placed at the time of osteotome sinus floor elevation (OSFE) withoutgrafting in patients with severely resorbed maxillary alveolar bone.Materials and Methods:22patients with residual bone height(RBH) less than5mm received OSFE without grafting combined withsimultaneous implant placement.32Straumann SLA implants were placed. The patients were recalled at6、12、24、36months after surgery for clinical andradiographic examinations. Results:All implants were successfully loaded at3~6months aftersurgery. One implant was lost after12months of functional loading, whileothers were stable and no complications were observed. The3-year survivalrate of implant was96.88%. The radiographs at6、12、24、36monthsdemonstrated the endo-sinus bone gain increased constantly during thefollow-up period. The endo-sinus bone gain was (3.41±0.42)mm and themarginal bone loss was (1.21±0.46)mm at36months. Conclusion: OSFE without grafting combined with simultaneousimplant placement should be considered a viable technique for use in patientswith severely absorbed maxillary alveolar bone.
