Objective Through clinical retrospective cohort study,to explore the effect of protein energy malnutrition-microinflammation-atherosclerosis(MIA syndrome) on the renal function of the non-dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) period of four or five; exploring these patients’common Syndromes of MIA syndrome in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM); Providing theoretical basises on preventions and treatments about MIA syndrome with Traditional Chinese and Western medicine to slow the progression of CKD and improve the qualities of life and outcomes of patients. Methods Through clinical retrospective cohort study,45cases of CKD period of four or five were collected according to the diagnostic and exclusioin standards. These cases were divided into two groups:24cases with MIA syndrome,21cases without. At the beginning and end of the observation, the levels and the changes of serum creatinin(Scr) and endogenous creatinine clearance rate(Ccr) were recorded in two groups during the periods, these dates were compared using SPSS version17.0software; Syndrom differentiation in24cases with MIA syndrome so as to induce common Syndromes of MIA syndrome in TCM after frequency s of various syndromes statisticed. Results The median(month) in two groups were12.5and12(P>0.05),respectively. Both in two groups, the levels of Scr and Ccr at the beginning in this study compared with the ending were significantly changed(P<0.05),but the concentration of Scr in the group with MIA syndrome was significantly increased than another group(P<0.01)and the Ccr decline was significantly faster than another(P<0.05);The common Syndromes of MIA syndrome in TCM was mingled with deficiency and excess syndromes. The main appearance of the former syndromes were Qi of deficiency of spleen and kidney and deficiency of Qi and ying of spleen and kidney, the latter were water-turbid damp and blood stasis syndromes. Conclusions MIA syndrome is a group of risk factors for deterioration of the renal function in non-dialysis patients with CKD period of four or five; The common Syndromes of MIA syndrome in TCM was mingled with deficiency and excess syndromes in these patients. The main appearance of the former syndromes were Qi of deficiency of spleen and kidney and deficiency of Qi and ying of spleen and kidney, the latter were water-turbid damp and blood stasis syndromes.
