| Objective:To establish quality control standard for Uyghur herbal medicine Mirabilis jalapa seeds, and to study its acute toxicity and bacteriostasis. Methods: Identification tests with macroscopic, microscopic and TLC were established, and the foreign matter, loss and drying, total ash and70%ethanol extract of10batches of the samples were carried out; Observed the acute toxicity of95%ethanol extract and water extract by using the maximum administration dosage; Anti-bacterial activies of water and95%ethanol extracts of Mirabilis jalapa seeds on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus. Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus and Candida albicans were carried out by using test tube2-fold dilution method and agar plate method, and the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration(MBC) were determined. Results:Those sample seeds were systematically identified as Mirabilis jalapa L. of Nyctaginaceae; Identification tests with macroscopic, microscopic, and testing of foreign matter, loss and drying, total ash and70%ethanol extract were established for the crud drug, the foreign matter is maximum4%. the loss and drying is maximum12.0%, the total ash is maximum4.0%, the70%ethanol extract is minimum4.0%; The maximum administration dosage of the water extract in mice was320g/kg(raw herbal medicine) and the95%ethanol extract was320g/kg(raw herbal medicine);95%ethanol extract of the seeds showed bacteriostatic action on Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus and Candida albicans except for Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, and the water extract had no inhibition effect. Conclusion:The quality standard of Mirabilis jalapa seeds was established and the maximum administration dosage of acute toxicity was determined as320g/kg(raw herbal medicine), The effect of bacteriostasis were obtained. The scientific evidences of Mirabilis jalapa seeds were provided for farther controlling the safety and efficacy of the drug on clinical use of Uygur medicine. |
