Objectives:To investigate the prevelence of depression in T2DM and for those diagnosed with depression in T2DM, the change of SDS followed with diabetic control to some extent. Methods:245T2DM patients with unsatisfactory diabetic control were scored by Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), and in which the patients accompanied with depression(Depressive Group) and not accompanied with depression(Non-Depressive Group) were screened. The numbers of patients in Depressive Group and Non-Depressive Group were counted respectively, and the prevalence rate of depression in245patients with T2DM were calculated. The basal HbAlc levels were compared between Depressive Group and Non-Depressive Group. All patients were initiated with basal insulin and72in90patients of Depressive Group had undertook the6-months follow-up to HbAlc and SDS. The correlation between the change of HbAlc and that of SDS was explored. Results:90in245patients with T2DM were accompanied with depression and the prevalence of depression in T2DM was36.7%. The mean values of the baseline HbAlc level in Depressive Group and Non-depressive Group were9.3±1.1%and8.2±0.8%respectively, and the difference between of which were statistically significant (P<0.01), which indicated that the diabetic control in Depressive Group was worse than that in Non-Depressive Group. In concordance with the decrease of the HbAlc level, the SDS were also significantly lowered after6-months treatment in72patients who had undertook the6-months follow-up. Both the fall of HbAlc level and that of SDS before and after basal insulin showed statistically significant(P<0.01)。 Conclusions:There was higer prevalence of depression in T2DM in contrast to normal population. The diabetic control of T2DM patients accompanied depression was markedly inferior to that of T2DM patients without depression. After the active treatment of basal insulin and in line with the amelioration of HbAlc level, the SDS of T2DM with depression menifested significant decrease, too.
