Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is the secondary cause ofsensorineural hearing impairment just behind presbycusis. It’s completelypreventable but permanent and irreversible. The increasing morbidity ofadolescent’s NIHL in the last30years has aroused widespread socialconcern. Recent studies show that adolescent’s NIHL is a behavior relateddiseases, based on adolescent’s unique physiological and psychologicalcharacteristics, and closely related to modern lifestyle. The primary causeof increasing morbidity is the growing recreational noise exposure andweak individual hearing protection measures. Even though the clinicaltherapeutic effect of adolescent’s NIHL is uncertain, it’s important toimpove the accuracy rate of early diagnosis by using the extendedhigh-frequency audiometry and distortion product otoacoustic emission, thus to achievetimely treatment. Adolescent’s NIHL is entirelypreventable. The key is to reduce noise exposure and use personal hearing protectiondevice. It is expected that the prevention of adolescent’s NIHL can obtainreliable basis and guidance by formulating better related standard strategyof adolescent’s hearing behavior based on protection motivation theory, with public lead and participation in the future. Take recreational noiseexposure as the breakthrough point, this paper comprehensively review ofthe latest progresses of domestic and foreign on epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures of adolescent’sNIHL, aim to improve the overall understanding to the disease, and providethe theoretical basis and clinical guidance for its prevention and treatment.
