| Objective To observe and compare the efficacy and pain control ofcalcium hydroxide and triple antibiotic paste(ornidazole, ciprofloxacin, andminocycline) separate and combined as medications of root canaldisinfectant.Methods235patients of chronic periapical periodontitis were assignedto2groups: fistula group (118) and no fistula group (117), each group wasrandomly divided into4groups: calcium hydroxide paste group(CH), tripleantibiotic paste group(TAP), calcium hydroxide+triple antibiotic pastegroup (CH+TAP), camphor phenol group.(CP) After regular root canalpreparation, severally group filled with the above4drugs paper point. Visualanalogue scales(VAS)were given to the patients and method of filling wasalso introduced to them after cure. One week later, observe the effect of rootcanal disinfection and record the pain. Results After7days, the effect show that no statistically differencebetween calcium hydroxide paste group, triple antibiotic paste group, calcium hydroxide+triple antibiotic paste group(P>0.05). But respectivelycompared with camphor phenol group, there was statistically difference in the three groups(P<0.05). VAS score analysis show that at least the first3days after sealing medicine in the root canal, calcium hydroxide+tripleantibiotic paste achieved better result of pain control than the others (P<0.05)no matter with or without fistula. Conclusion Calcium hydroxide paste and triple antibiotic paste, eitheralone or in combination as intracanal medication is effective for thetreatment of chronic apical periodontitis with or without fistula. However, the combined use of calcium hydroxide and three antibiotic pastes was betterfor controlling the pain after root canal preparation than other group. It isworthy of clinical application. |
