| Objective:This study is aimed to describe the experiences of blood transfusion through interviews with patients with hematological diseases. This study tries to enrich medical staff’s awareness of patients’ blood transfusion experience, to find out evidence for feasible treatment and nursing interventions and to provide information for blood transfusion management.Methods:This study was used the descriptive phenomenology method. Semi-structured in-deep face to face interviews were carried out to patients with hematological diseases in department of hematology of The Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. Interviews were tape-recorded using a Sony Digital Recorder with the consent of the interviewees. Data analysis was based on Giorgi’s principles and steps, and was carried out in Nvivo7.0step by step.Results:1. There were26interviewees.16were female. They were aged from19to65years old. The mean age is40years of age.6were unmarried,20were married;10had primary or below school education,6had junior or senior high school education,10had junior college or above education; All of them were of definite disease diagnosis and their course of the disease were more than three months. All of them had2times or more blood transfusions experiences.17respondents were belong to the new rural cooperative medical system which reimbursement ratio is less than50%,9people enjoyed province or worker medical insurance which reimbursement ratio was more than50%.2. After coding and data analysis, two kinds of themes were identified. They were cognition and attitude of blood transfusion and emotional reactions. Cognition and attitude of blood transfusion comprised a sense of perceptions, benefit of blood transfusion, blood transfusion risk, process and cost. Emotional reactions were including anxiety, happy and fear. Conclusion:1. According to the results of this study, the content of blood transfusion experiences of patients with hematological diseases include two aspects:cognition and emotion. Cognition play a major positive role in patient experience, containing recognizing that blood transfusion is beneficial to the recovery from disease and treatment of symptoms, blood transfusion process will not bring discomfort; the risk of blood transfusion is in the acceptable range.2. Anxiety is mainly about blood transfusion cost. |
