Objective:To explore the effect of inhaled corticosteroid(ICS) on lung function and inflammatory mediators in cough variant asthma(CVA) children.Methods:50cases with CVA were divided into group A (n=30) and group B(n=20), and20healthy children were recruited as healthy control group (group C) in this study. The cases in group A were given inhaled budesonide aerosol (200ug/day) intervention therapy for6months. The cases in group B did not accept ICS and systemic glucocorticoid therapy, only symptomatic treatment and salbutamol was given if necessary. Assessment about lung function, bronchial dilation test(BDT), and inflammatory mediators(IL-5、IL-8、IL-10) in all groups was held before and after treatment.Results:1.Lung functiona(1) Before treatment, there is no difference in FVC、FEV1and PEF in three groups, MMEF in group A and B were significantly lower than it in group C.(2) In group A,after3and6months ICS treatment, compared with those before treatment respectively, after6months ICS treatment compared with after3months, MMEF was significantly improved. In group B, MMEF was no improved.(3)The BDT positive rate in group C was significantly lower than those in group A and B. In group A, the BDT positive rate was decreased after3and6months ICS treatment, and the longer the treatment continued, the lower the BDT positive rate was. In group B, there was no significant decrease of BDT positive rate after treatment.2.The serum levels of IL、IL-8、IL-10:(1)In group C, the levels of IL-5and IL-8were lower than those in group A and B, but the level of IL-10was higher than it in the other two groups, the difference is significant. After3and6months ICS treatment, the serum levels of IL-5and IL-8were significantly decreased and the level of IL-10was increased in group A, the longer the treatment continued, the more obvious change they had.(2)There was no significant difference in group B after3and6months treatment.(3)There is significant difference between group A and group B after3and6months treatment.Conclusion:1. ICS (Budesonide Aerosol) may improve the small airway function and bronchial diastolic function in cough variant asthma patients.2. The level of inflammatory mediators in CVA patients gradually improved with the ICS (Budesonide Aerosol) therapy prolonged, and the level of airway inflammation was decreased.
