ObjectiveThis study evaluated the preliminary screening effect of the STOP-Bang and QOL-OSAHS for screening and assessing the severity of sleep clinic patients without previous diagnoses of obstructive sleep apnea, as well as compared the predictive abilities of them.MethodAll the patients underwent over-night diagnostic PSG were asked to fill in a questionnaire with simple dichotomized8-points, represented by the mnemonic STOP-Bang and the other one named QOL-OSAHS. Both the total and the score in every dimensionality scores were analyzed; The predictive values of the two scales for OSAHS were determined by receiver operator curve and discriminatory analysis.ResultComparing the scores of SBQ and QOL-OSAHS rating scale with the severity of patients’conditions defined by PSG by correlation analysis. AHI score are positive correlation with SBQ score (r=0.341, P=0.001), and negatively related to the QOL score (r=-0.224, P=0.030).SBQ score is negatively related to the QOL score (r=-0.242, P=0.001).Application on the basis of AHI group, single factor analysis of variance between groups of SBQ and QOL scores showed that SBQ score between each are not identical (F=6.095, P=0.001), and can be used to screen at the beginning of disease of OSAHS.QOL scores have no differences between groups (F=1.272, P=0.289), and is not suitable for early screening for OSAHS alone.in accordance with AHI which is the gold standard, the objects were discriminant after separating as the simple sleep apnea and mild OSAHS group, mild and moderate OSAHS group, moderate and severe OSAHS group piecewise, then the object were divided into two groups as the sleep disordered breathing and OSAHS.Classified the objects using ROC curve with Youden’s index as a reference, and took the he SBQ score when Youden’s index was maximum value as the cut-off point of the two categories, SBQ score for moderate and severe OSAHS, the discriminant result with AHI has no difference (xc2=1.786, P=0.180).ConclusionThe SBQ and QOL-OSAHS Questionnaires have distinct consistent with AHI in the respect of assessing the severity of sleep clinic patients. The assess of SBQ is a clinically useful tool with high sensitivity that can be used to screen patients for moderate and severe OSAHS, while QOL-OSAHS is not suitable to be used in screening OSAHS preliminary individually.
