| With the development of modern society, more and more people have been come tooral surgery department for their treatment. People used to think that oral treatmentcouldn’t bring some medical emergencies to patients. However, medical emergencies dooccur in oral surgery department with the development of the advanced medical therapy, and the number of old patients increasing every year, which may lead to the growing ofcomplications in the dental department. In1998, British medical institution began to takesome study about prevalence of dental emergency in dental department. They found thatlots of dental emergencies may take place in the process of dental therapy. Hence weshould pay much attention to the complications which may endanger the safety of patients. As a dentist, we can not relax our vigilance, we should improve our professional level andtry our best to reduce and avoid the medical emergencies coming up in the oraldepartment. In China, though we can find some literatures and reports of dental medicalemergencies in oral surgery department, there is no systematic study about emergency events in outpatient department of oral surgery. Those literatures and reports of dentalmedical emergencies could not represent the basic information of all that happened inChina. So that we should take systematic study and analysis about all kinds of dentalemergencies, and what is more important is to find out the reasons of dental emergenciesand how to prevent them. Finally, we should try to reduce and avoid the dental emergencyby intervention methods. Recently, we propose some new concepts and techniques oftreatment about oral surgery in order to reduce the incidence of dental emergency. In this study, we systematically investigated all kinds of dental emergencies thatoccurred medical emergencies in the Outpatient Department of Oral&MaxillofacialSurgery, School of Stomatology, Fourth Military Medical University, from October2003to June2013, to find their reasons and look for the new approaches to prevent them. The study was divided into two parts:Partâ… :This part collected all medical information of the dental emergency patients for anepidemiological investigation, including age, gender, from October2003to June2009, toanalyze the types and reasons of dental medical emergency in the Outpatient Departmentof Oral&Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Stomatology, Fourth Military MedicalUniversity. Results showed that:1.70cases demonstrated the dental medical emergency in the treatment of oral surgeryincluding65patients (accounting for92.86%),3accompanies (accounting for4.29%)and2medical staffs (accounting for2.85%).2. There was significant difference in the dental emergency category. There were10types of dental emergency in oral surgery department. One of the most common dentalemergencies was cardiovascular disease (accounting for54.30%).3. People who have systemic diseases, especially old patients are vulnerable to happendental emergency (accounting for77.14%and58.58%respectively).4. Survey showed that patients are apt to occurrence of dental emergency during the course of surgery treatment and anesthesia (accounting for26.45%and51.38%respectively).Partâ…¡:This part collected all patients’ medical information and the Life-threateningemergencies in the department from July2009to June2012. The kinds and incidence ofthe medical emergencies before and after the application of intervention methods werecompared.1.25cases demonstrated the dental medical emergency in the treatment of oral surgeryafter the application of intervention methods, including20patients,2accompanies and3medical staffs. The incidence of dental emergency has reduced significantly by theintervention methods.2. The results show that the modern intervention methods may take significance effectson the incidence of dental medical emergencies. The incidence of dental medicalemergencies was taken statistical analysis by Poisson (P<0.05).3. The modern intervention methods can not help to influence the incidence anddistribution of all kinds of the dental medical emergencies (P>0.05).In short, the modern intervention methods can reduce the incidence of dental medicalemergencies significantly. We are confident to believe that the risks of oral surgerytreatment can be reduced effectively in our country by promoting this technique. |
