In order to understand the differences in the main areas of watermelon planting patterns and its impact on operating income of peasants, this article analyzes the five main producing areas of China watermelon planting statistical system, and provide adequate theoretical and empirical basis for the future healthy development of watermelon industry in China and the strategic planning, the development of new socialist countryside, and effectively improve the peasants’ income. Research results:1.Most parts of China plant crops mainly in spring and summer, while South China and the Yangtze River Basin is of the highest proportion of autumn and winter planting; more than 60% of the areas still use climbing mode of cultivation methods; the average proportion of organic fertilizer application in watermelon main producing areas is 66.16%; western region tend to use flat plot cropping, central and eastern regions tend to use Takakuro tillage mode; South China and Huanghuaihai main producing areas mainly use the open field cultivation and other areas mainly use installation cultivation; south is dominated by sand soil and loam, while clay and loam in northern; planting spacing is between 145 and 184cm in west areas, while Eastern planting spacing is between 100 and 113cm.2.With the highest average capital investment and the smallest average cultivation area among the main producing areas, the Yangtze River Basin reaches the highest Mu income and earnings. Northeast China, the Yangtze River basin, the main producing areas in South China is export oriented, while main producing areas in Northwest and the main producing areas in Huanghuaihai is domestic sales mainly.3. The overall impact on operating income descending order is:planting spacing> soil quality> planting patterns> type of basal fertilizer> cultivation mode> tillage methods> planting crops> sowing methods; installation cultivation and amenities planting, Takakuro tillage mode and rational spacing can significantly improve the watermelon income level; Takakuro tillage mode, rational spacing and breeding of industrial scale can significantly improve the profit level of watermelon planting.4.This paper proposes the following policy recommendations:promote the cultivation of vines hanging according to local conditions and Takakuro tillage mode, and expand the planting spacing properly in the Central and Eastern regions; improve the planting proportion of autumn and winter planting in South China and the Yangtze River Basin, and foster regional brands overall; increase investment and improve capital efficiency and production of marginal benefit; promote installation cultivation of big and small arch shed, and promote modern cultivation techniques, and improve the level of breeding industrialization; reduce distribution costs and improve watermelon export rate and economic efficiency.
