| Magnesium is an essential kind of metal cation for plant growth. The concentration of magnesium ion in organization will influence the structure of plant tissues and cells, and it also plays an important role in photosynthesis and the formation of fruit quality during the process of plant growth. In this study, the diploid woodland strawberry accession ’Ruegen’, ’Yellow Wonder’, and octoploid strawberry ’Yanli’,’Hongli’ are used as the materials, and the potting strawberry plants are treated with the solution of magnesium sulfate with different concentration (0 mmol/L,2 mmol/L,4 mmol/L,8 mmol/L,16 mmol/L,32 mmol/L). The effects of magnesium sulfate on plant development and fruit quality of strawberry are studied, and the main results are as follows:1. Application of magnesium sulfate significantly can affect growth and development of strawberry. Low concentration of magnesium sulfate (2 mmol/L) can promote growth and development, as increasing the plant height, leaf area, leaf numbers and new stem numbers. While, hight concentration of magnesium sulfate (8 mmol/L) results in growth and development inhibition, as reducing the plant height, leaf area, leaf numbers and new stem numbers.2. When application of 2 mmol/L magnesium sulfate, the strawberry plants enhanced the content of chlorophyll of leaves, increased photosynthesis, improved the net photosynthetic rate, promoted growth. However using the high concentration of magnesium sulfate can low the content of chlorophyll of leaves, inhibit the photosynthesis of strawberry, affect organic synthesis, against the growth of strawberry.3. Applying an appropriate amount of magnesium sulfate can improve the activity of strawberry root system, promote the root development. High concentration of magnesium sulfate had a negative impact in strawberry root development, reducing the root activity.4. Applying high concentration of magnesium sulfate can increase the content of free proline and malondialdehyde in leaves during the process of strawberry growth.5. Low concentration of magnesium sulfate could increase the content of the soluble solids in strawberry fruit, however, the content of fruit soluble solids can be decreased by applying high concentration of magnesium sulfate. |
