China has a vast territory, and there are evident distinctions in the climatic environment in the south and north, which has resulted in extremely unbalanced water resource distribution across the country. In recent years, due to the rapid economic development, sustainable increase of industrial and agricultural production and living water, and constant changes in climatic environment, Northern China, especially rural areas, usually runs into the problem of drought and water shortage. Governments of all levels have input substantial fund in looking for drinkable water source to solve the drinking water problem, and constructed all kinds of water storage and water supply pipeline projects for realizing the remote water transfer. However, some villages are quite far from some water sources and scattered, and it is impossible to send people to watch over. Consequently, there are usually problems of empty or overflowing reservoirs in villages, making it so difficult for management. In order to solve this problem, the development of an intelligent wireless control system that can realize the remote unattended water diversion for water-deficient areas turns to be an urgent demand.This paper firstly investigates the rural water supply status in a certain place(Yangyuan County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei) in north China, introduces the control problem in the supply of drinking water, studies the problems in the management of present local water supply system, and proposes corresponding proper solutions. Secondly, it introduces the system hardware structure and principles of the solution in detail, designs the water level control plan and water pump control of the water source, conducts the design of control system software, and offers related software communication protocol. Besides, it also transforms the control wiring of the pump motor, designs the water level detection circuit, selects STM32 SCM module and GSM mobile communication model for realizing some practical functions, for instance, the information processing, remote wireless transmission and control, the control of pumper operating state and monitoring of system operating state with short message service, etc. Finally, a village is selected for the test of system operating stability and reliability, so as to check the practical operating effect of the system.After a period of actual running, it indicates that the control system can solve the energy-saving, water-saving and management problem efficiently in water diversion projects for water-deficient areas.
