As a result of ten years of rapid development, the muskmelon industry of Yanliang has become an important melon production base of China from the end of last century to now.Ganshan Town in Yanliang is one of the best melon-producing areas and named “The hometown of melon in China”. The muskmelon industry became the leading industry of Yanliang and the main source of income of melon farmers gradually. However some academics found that there are many problems in the system of muskmelon industry of Yanliang in recently several years, which limit itself development. The writer mastered the melon industry status of Yanliang after a half of year investigation. There is an area of2000hm2 for melon planting in Yanliang. The main varieties of Yanliang melon are white thick pulp muskmelon, red thick pulp muskmelon and thin pulp melon. The main pruning ways of melon are single vine pruning and double vines pruning, almost no three vines pruning. The facilities of melon planting are steel frame shed,steel-bamboo frame shed and bamboo frame shed. The technology of muskmelon planting in Yanliang improve significantly,some cooperative and farmers use and popularize the technology of melon hanging vine cultivation in the steel frame shed. The writer had done statistical analysis of the melon markets and wholesale price regular pattern. There are 5 main questions which limit the development of the melon industry. The first the melon seeds sale network is complex and packages make people confusion. The second is land replanted seriously after several years planting in the same land. The third is melon farmers aging. The fourth are the orderless melon market and lack of assurance of quality and safety. The fifth is single species and concentrated sale. In order to solve those issues and promote the development of melon industry of Yanliang the writer proposes seven suggestions. The first is planning the structure of melon production rightly and setting more demonstration. The second is making the seeds market standard. The third is educating younger melon planting experts. The fourth is taking reasonable measures to ease the plight of land replanted. The fifth is establishing a complete system of disease prevention forecast. The sixth is making the melon market become order.The seventh is developing tourism to promote the development of melon industry.
