Recently, the study on organizational commitment is becoming a hot topic of management research. Two reasons underlying the study of this paper:on the one hand, research about antecedents show that personal factors affect organizational commitment greatly, but personality traits are not included. On the other hand, personality traits influence attitudes, while organizational commitment is an attitude. So it is necessary to study the relationship between personality traits and organizational commitment.Firstly, reviewing research on the Big Five and the three-component organizational commitment combined with our analysis, we put forward the research hypothesises. Secondly, we design the questionnaire of personality traits and organizational commitment. Thirdly, we use descriptive statistic analysis to explain basic picture of sample, use Cronbach’s a to test reliability of the questionnaire, use factor analysis to examine the validity of questionnaire, use correlation analysis and multivariate regression analysis to explore the relationship between personality traits and organizational commitment. The results showed that Extraversion and Agreeableness are positively related to affective commitment, while Agreeableness can be an predictor of affective commitment. Openness to Experience and Neuroticism are positively related to continuance commitment, and they both have regression relationships with continuance commitment. Extraversion, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness are all positively related to Normative commitment, and Extraversion and Agreeableness can predict Normative commitment.The contribution of this paper is two-fold. First, we choose personality traits as antecedents of organizational commitment and confirm the existing relationship between them which expend the existing research. Besides, we provide a fresh perspective to the study of organizational commitment by linking personality traits to organizational commitment.
