Cooperative housing is a kind of residential construction mode with households’ collaboration and participation, which is organized, operated and managed by particular organizations. There can be differences in cooperative housing in terms of the size of organization, the background of participant and the mode of design and operation. Although cooperative housing has developed for over 200 years in foreign countries, it progresses slow in most Chinese cities because of Residential Commercialization Reform, and is researched only in the introduction of foreign advanced experience and domestic operate institutions in China. Nevertheless, there are a number of cooperative housing practices in Chinese countryside, represented by "Construction Solidarity" led by Xie Yingjun, a Taiwanese Architect. Based on grasping the concept of cooperative housing and combined with the subjective evaluation and constructive intentions of the occupants, this thsis aims to study the characteristic of the folk house built by the locals and of the eco-friendly rural house constructed in cooperative housing mode, so as to analyze and conclude the design and operating mechanism and development direction.This thesis includes theoretical research, project analysis, building evaluation questionnaire and interviews. By means of uniting the investigation with analysis and of comparing objective facts and subjective intentions, this thesis summarizes general design and operate methods of rural cooperative housing causation and design strategies.This thesis includes three chapters-the development direction of elaborate, the current housing situation research, the cognitive evaluation and analysis, such as three parts below:Chapter 1 mainly discusses a wide range of residential development direction of cooperation, elaborates relevant design, operation idea and concept explanation, which is established theoretical basis of argument.Chapter 2 focuses on comparative case study on the self-built rural residential and the Construction Solidarity cases, summarizing the situation and problems of rural residential construction in three aspects-space & design, construction and materials, participation and operation.Chapter 3 analyse the subjective evaluation of the house occupants and building professionals, and preliminarily sorting out issues which need attention and study in rural residential construction.
