Coupling is a common mechanical device, which can connect the two shafts, make the connected shafts rotating and transfer motion and torque at the same time. The metal diaphragm coupling is made up of the left and right half shaft coupling, the metal diaphragm group and the middle connecting body and connecting bolts, locking devices. Through a number of laminations and collecting metal diaphragm group, metal diaphragm coupling can be a good compensation ability to connect two shafts relative offset, so the metal diaphragm coupling is a kind of important flexible coupling in high speed shaft transmission.In this paper, the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling was made a research, which is a metal plate spring coupling and developed for the uses in servo motors, high speed, high precision, ultra-precision control. In its power transmission part, the coupling is adopted by the way with high rigidity and low inertia metal spring mode, For flexible coupling, especially the torsion direction is hard, the direction of rotation, high and low direction, axial direction is very soft, this mode has ideal characteristics. The connection of the shafts adopt the clamping mode. Because the power transmission is carried out by friction, so the connection of shafts is completely non back gap. And the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling has no aging, such as rubber and resin couplings. The splint liner type metal diaphragm coupling is different from the traditional shaft couplings. It puts the left and right half coupling, the metal diaphragm group and intermediate together and integrates them as one mechanism, which saves the assembly space greatly and can be well applied to driven connection of small and medium sized mechanical structures.The domestic research on the couplings was focused on the research of traditional flexible couplings. In particular, the research on the metal diaphragm couplings usually separated the key part of the metal diaphragm couplings - the metal diaphragm group out, taking the 1/3 or 1/6 of the diaphragm group of the symmetric metal diaphragm group for modeling and analysis, overall assembly method was seldom used. That was setting up the whole assembly model of metal diaphragm and coupling, then carrying on the analysis research. Through modeling and simulation analysis of the integral diaphragm coupling, obtaining the data under assembly conditions of the key components of the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling-the metal diaphragm.The main research contents of this paper were as follows: According to the actual structure of the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling, using three dimensional modeling software Pro/E to construct 3D solid model of the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling, through the Pro/E and CAD interface technology, imported the 3D solid model of the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling into the finite element analysis software Workbench ANSYS and setted up the finite element model of the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling.By using the finite element analysis software Workbench ANSYS, carrying out the static finite element analysis of the whole diaphragm coupling, the effects of axial offset, angular deviation and radial deviation, which was generated by the installation error, as well as pre tightening force, torque, centrifugal force on the mechanical properties of the diaphragm coupling were studied in this paper. At last, obtaining all the mechanical data of the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling, and the mechanical properties of different materials and inner circle shape membrane was compared, some suggestions are proposed for the design of diaphragm shape of the splint sleeve type metal diaphragm coupling.Carrying on modal analysis of the integral coupling and the metal diaphragm, to make calculations and obtain the natural frequencies and corresponding modes of the coupling and the metal diaphragm. So using these data, we can help designers to determine the natural frequencies and modes of the structure, so that help designers make the structure design to avoid resonance, and guide the engineers to predict the vibration mode of the structure under different loads.Based on the fatigue cumulative damage theory, the paper made fatigue life analysis of the coupling by using Workbench ANSYS fatigue analysis module and made study on the fatigue life of the metal diaphragm of the coupling by means of analyzing fatigue life and safety factor of the simulation analysis results.
