Wind power integration is an effective way to achieve large-scale utilize of wind energy resources and relieve the energy crisis and environmental deterioration. However, wind power is an unconventional power, under the background of small group of wind farms and low permeability, the bottleneck of wind power integration is restricted by the transmission capacity of local grid, it is easy to govern. With increasing penetration of wind power, regulating ability of power grid is deficient relative to wind power fluctuations, causing wind curtailment in large area and even endangering safety of power grid. Using energy storage system(ESS) can achieve energy translation in time and space and reach the aim of reducing wind curtailment and making grid more safety and economy. Under the market of relatively high cost of storage, how to optimize the capacity configuration of ESS and realize the economic benefits maximization is a significant research subject.This paper analyzed the reason of wind curtailment by variation and peak-shaving capability of wind power firstly, on this basis analyzed wind curtailment characteristics and consequently proposed multi-scenario control strategy under concentrate charge and discharge and developed principle of scene division; then, proposed a capacity configuration method of large-scale ESS under concentrated charge and discharge based on wind curtailment characteristics and economics, considering time difference and distribution of wind curtailment and power benefit, environmental benefit, investment cost, maintenance cost and other factors impacting on comprehensive benefit of ESS.Finally, the proposed method was applied to actual power system, the result showed that the multi-scenario control strategy considering wind curtailment characteristics could acquire more benefit than single control strategy, and verified feasibility of the proposed method,All in all, the researchers in this paper can provide an important reference to capacity configuration of large-scale ESS under concentrated charge and discharge.
