The tests were studied on the HST-100 tribo-tester with Cu/QCr0.5 couple under electric current, which simulated the working conditions of current collectors sliding against overhead contact wires. Explore the relationship between arc rate, arc energy and the current-carrying quality. Analysis the influence of speed, current and load on the arc rate, arc energy and friction and wear properties. Using scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersion spectrum analyzer(EDS) observation of friction surface morphology and surface composition changes, friction and wear mechanism of the carrier under different parameters.The results show that, According to arc combustion position, arc was divided into small arc and large arc. The arc shape was recorded by high-speed cameras and photosensitive triple tube, arc has randomness and motility.Arc has electrical conductivity and arc may lead to current waveform distortion. Under the condition of different current, arc rate has close correlation to the currentcarrying quality, arc rate and arc energy increases, current-carrying efficiency is lower, current-carrying stability is better, but increases the wear rate of material.Under certain load condition, the increase of current and speed, the rate of arcing arc and arc energy were increased. Since the current is mainly influences the temperature of friction pair surface, so the current increase, the friction coefficient decreases, the wear rate increase, worn by a large adhesive wear when the current were small into small adhesive wear. Speed increase, the friction surface due to the friction pair between the shock and vibration and roughened, and therefore the friction coefficient and wear rate increases, arc erosion also increases. Under certain conditions of the current and speed, the actual contact area between the friction pair is increase with the load increasing, the arc arcing rate decreased, arc energy decreases, increases of the friction surface adhesive wear, friction coefficient and wear rate were increased.After analysis of Cu worn surface morphologies, the result showed that, The wear mechanism of copper were adhesion wear, plastic deformation, arc erosion, melting accumulation and oxidation wear.
