Chamfering gear is one of the key transmission components in automobile gearbox its processing quality will directly affect the performance of automotive transmission system. Now, the main method for detecting the quality of the contour of chamfering gear uses a contact-type with high accuracy, but the measuring process requires the measurement probe contact with the surface of the chamfering gear. The probe is easily damaged and has poor reproducibility of the measurement. This paper proposes a two-levels non-contact measuring system with machine vision and laser displacement measurement technology for measuring the contour of gear chamfer, and it achieves accurate measurement of gear chamfering profile.Machine vision inspection technology is a fast, non-contact measurement method an it has been widely used in the fields of product quality testing, three-dimensional surface profile measurement. Machine vision can be used to measure other parameters of gears but measurement accuracy of the machine vision is limited by the resolution of the optical system and the size of image pixels. So using a single array CCD sensors measure displacement, it is difficult to meet the requirements of precision measurement to detect laser displacement sensor. Laser displacement measurement technology mainly uses laser triangulation principle to measure the surface with non-contact measurement. The result of measurement is high-precision and can be achieved0.1um in one direction, but because it is point measurement so it has low measurement efficiency. Combining rapid measurement positioning, the advantages of machine vision detection technology, with guiding the laser displacement sensor to quickly reach a small range of measurement and measure points, this improves the speed and accuracy of measurement.The main contents include:1) Introduced the significance and status of the research at home and abroad;2) According to the requirements of gear chamfering parameter measurement, this researched and discussed the non-contact measurement method for measuring the contour of the gear chamfering based on guided positioning by machine vision and measuring with high-precision laser displacement sensor;3) According to the method of measuring, this designed the hardware of chamfering gears measuring system;4) According to the theoretical research on gear chamfering measurement system, designed and programmed software. Achieved to measure the surface profile of the gear chamfering, through image capturing, edge contour extraction, gear centering, measuring trajectory planning, as well as display and output of gear chamfering parameter, etc.5) Through the experiment, this verified the hardware and software of the gear chamfering measurement system, including the accuracy of movement of the motion platform, the accuracy of measuring the displacement of the inclined plane surfaces by the laser displacement sensor, the error of measurement when the calibration plate is not the measuring plane, the error of gear centering, as well as the influence of measurement errors when gear centering has errors.
