Labyrinth seal with zig-zag flow channel is a kind of non-contact dynamic seal. The technology becomes more mature as the study develops. It is widely used as seal component for turbomachinery. Based on in-depth survey of mess references, this thesis gives an overview of labyrinth seal, including its basic work principle and current state of research on various factors affecting sealing performance. Revealing the essence in the flow field rather than black-box approach can reduce the leakage of labyrinth seal fundamentally. Thanks to the rapid progress of computer technology, numerical simulation analysis based on the theory of computational fluid dynamics is able to offset the disadvantages of experiment and thermodynamics analysis. Optimizing the structure of labyrinth seal in drainage pump by CFD software could reduce cost and cycle of R&D. This dissertation includes the following parts:1. Summarize the rationale of CFD and setting principles in CFD software. Establish2D model of Sandy Bay at the entrance section in Pro/Engineer according to the analysis of multi-stage centrifugal pump. Complete the finite element mesh generation including boundary layer grid in HyperMesh.2. Flow characteristics of internal field and the course of energy conversion in the labyrinth could be got by numerical simulation analysis. Sum up the variation of leakage rate with different labyrinth sizes and shapes in order to improve seal capability.3. Verify the optimization trends by comparing2D CFD calculation with the outcome of3D model. Further analysis about axial-radial labyrinth seal is available to dissect the complicated flow status contribute to design the best structure of labyrinth seal in the centrifugal pump.Basic process and result analysis of numerical simulation is of great importance both in theory and application. The information and conclusion from post-processing will provide references for optimal sealing structure design for new type of mining drainage pump.
