Driving posture is one of the important factors that affect the driver’s comfort, manyforeign studies had proposed the concept of "middle position", and noted that most driverstended to perform job tasks in such a position. A hypothesis was presented: driver’s mainbiological load was relatively small when the body was in the middle position; at the sametime, the cab layout parameters had a great impact on the comfort. Then the driver’sbiomechanical load was calculated to study the assumptions on the above with the help ofbiomechanical analysis software AnyBody:1) The current research status in driving position, comfort and spinal biomechanics wereanalyzed.2) Based on the ANSUR database,14edge mannequins were established, and sixrepresentative mannequins were extracted as the analysis samples according to the size ofheight percentile. The "middle position" and the general posture were calculated with CPMmodel, and then the biomechanical model was built with the help of AnyBody, which wasused to calculate the biomechanical load under corresponding postures.3) The impact of the cab layout parameters on the driver’s biological load was studied. Bychanging the Layout parameters (A27, H30, L11and H17),the driver’s biomechanical loadwas analyzed under the corresponding postures, and a reasonable value of layout parameterswas got, which can be used to guide the design of the driving area effectively. Based on thebiological load, layout parameters and body dimensions, the discomfort model was builtwith the help of regression analysis method.4) The difference between biomechanical load under normal posture and "middleposition" was studied.5) The impact of the driver’s posture on the L4-L5disc load was studied with the finiteelement analysis method. In this article the assumptions was studied from the perspective of driver’s biological load, and a result was got that the driver felt more comfortable near the middle position and someparts of the body obey this assumption well, the reasons and mechanisms will be furtherstudied in the future,at the same time, the discomfort model was built based on thebiological load, layout parameters and body dimensions, which could evaluate the driver’sposture effectively. The article also had some disadvantages: the driver biomechanical model did notconsider the impact of thigh skimming angle when its position was set; limited to theexperimental condition, all the analysis in this paper were done in simulation way. So in thefuture the relationship between body parts’ biological load and overall comfort will bestudied, as well as the comfortable site in different postures.
