Lightweight automobile technologies greatly prompt the application and development of aluminum alloy. The aluminum alloy sheet shows rupture and warping during the mechanical clinching because of the poor formability. Analysis the feasibility of the aluminum alloy is done through FEA and experiment. This paper introduces the mechanical properties of the various series of aluminum alloy material and application in automobile body. We selected5754as the material for analysis by studying the theory and technology of mechanical clinching joint.Firstly, paper briefly explained the quality problem and its cause during the mechanical clinching process. Also process layout of the clinching joint and molds type selection was elaborated.Secondly, Established the clinching FEA model, then simulated the clinching forming process to study the distribution of stress and strain. The biggest stress and strain region lies at the neck of the sheet joint. However the stretched region can usually fracture in the clinching process.Thirdly, Established the mechanical performance model of the clinching joint, then simulated the mechanical performance to withstand axial load of joint numerically, the result show that the model is correct comparing with the product from TOX.Finally, the experimental platform was set up to study the process parameters of the clinching sheets warping.
