Rail freight transport has advantages of large volume, high safety, environmentalfriendliness factor, so it plays a very important role in China’s transportation industry. Withthe growth of railway freight traffic in recent years, the energy consumption has beenincreasing year by year. According to statistics data, the energy consumption of the freightlocomotives accounts for a large proportion of the total railway energy consumption in China.It is very important to study on traction energy consumption factors for freight trains andestablish calculation model. And it is crucial to propose the optimization measures ofenergy-saving, do the energy-saving work such as saving and management the resourcesabout energy consumption of trains, and realize the goal of the energy conservation andemissions reduction in China’s railway industry. It also of important practical significance tobuild a resource-conserving and environment-friendly society and promote the sustainabledevelopment of transportationFirstly, the paper analyzes the situation of rail freight transport in our country, and basedon the existing research results of in and broad, the affecting factors of the energyconsumption of the freight locomotives are discussed from four aspects which are mobiledevices, operating environment, organizational programs and drivers’ operation. Secondly, amodel based on the traction force characteristic of different operating stages is built, theoperating stages which included driving process, constant speeding, coasting and brakingprocess. And based on this model, different situations including the same gross weight by thesame locomotive runs on the different lines and the different gross weight by the samelocomotive runs on the same line are analyzed. Then comparison and analysis the calculationresults of the model with the simulation. Lastly, the energy-saving measures are given byaccording to influencing factors and model analysis.
