Although the familiar phrase--- "Architecture is frozen music, the music is flowing architecture" has long been popular, the link between them is often difficult to say. If just repeat melodies, it is impossible to get rid of literary metaphor. For the buildings and structures nature architecture and music has, it is hard for people to explain the relationship between them from the front. This paper attempts to analyze the context and thinking background of architecture and music, excavate and comb the common original history of them, and explore the relationship between them under the system of modern art, so as to make readers grasp the characteristics of architectural art. So, how to make the study of the relationship between architecture and music become possibly in theory? In this paper, according to the time sequence that from the ancient Grace to Daniel Libeskind’s “music and architecture”, the author tries to discuss the relationship between architecture and music. However, after reviewing the entire history of architecture and music, it is need for interdisciplinary, a lot of expertise and divergent thinking to discuss the relationship between them. Therefore, the author wants to focus on the variety possibilities that link architecture and music, rather than simply put them in one field, and also analyzes the relationship between them from a historical perspective. On the other hand, the author settled the critical speech analysis of research object in history, cited several research methods, which determines the thought frame of this paper.Besides, there are other research methods and theories. For example, in the Mannerist period, the common study of architecture and music: first, both architecture and music are out of common sense of the Renaissance experimental attempts; second, they are considered to have a tendency to rely on other arts and so on. It should be noted that, in the study of the relationship between architecture and music, researchers should try to avoid literary analogy method, analyze the structural and methodological relationship between them and do not place undue reliance on style, but to make concrete analysis to the mentioned object. For with further research, too dependent on style will lead to the style become the research object. In addition, it also should be noted that, in this article the construction has been studied as the musical metaphor.Of course, some people prefer to treat music as the architectural metaphor, such as LeCorbusier "moving architecture," Yoriaki Matsudairo "Music is shaking buildings" and so on. But according to the author’s point of view, if they are reversed, the relationship between architecture and music will become the architecture and the building transformed by music, so the building itself becomes the comparison study object, study areas will be set up in the field of the building itself. Therefore, the author feels that the construction studied as the musical metaphor is more appropriately(Of course, if it is in the field of music to study the relationship between architecture and music, then reversed, is the most appropriate.).By writing this article the author hopes, on the one hand it can make readers know the intersection and penetration between two different disciplines, and play an enlightening role in understanding the world from different perspectives and using all aspects knowledge comprehensively; On the other hand the author hopes that through elaborating the relationship between architecture and music can help to improve the overall architectural design aesthetic awareness, and have a certain value for the innovation development thinking; In addition, the author also hopes this article can inspire readers to produce more interrelated resonance between architecture and music, looking forward to have more musicians can make architectural space into music. The discrepancies of this article:(1) the material collection is not sufficient enough;(2) this paper demonstrates the relationship between architecture and music mainly from the development of Western history, but for the theory of the East, due to the lack of systematic documentation for reference, does not been mentioned more;(3)thesis seeks comprehensive view of the long term contextual factors and background factors in short periods impacting Chinese and Western architectural ideas, but in fact for long periods are slightly less regarded.
