Research On The Methods Of Residential Facade Renovation Which Facing City Street In Chengdu

Street, as pulse of the city, carries the prosperity of the city and reveals its appearance and transformation over time. Building along street is an essential element of streetscape, among which the residential buildings play a major role. They present the image of the city streets, express its functions, as well as its history and culture. With the rapid development and expansion of cities in our country, the disharmony between new and old buildings, especially the street side residential buildings facade, are becoming more significant. Problems such as material aging, color mismatch, and facade chaos, are significantly damaging the overall image and streets identification.Restoration of street side residential buildings facade has been widely applied in many cities in our country, and it has become an important tool for improving the urban landscape. By domestic and overseas case studies, this paper first clarifies the goal and significance by doing background analysis. Then, understand the restoration of the street side residential buildings facade by studying and summarizing both theories of city streets design and building facade design. After that, categorize and analyze the constitutional element of what would be remodeled. Finally, find the factors that influence the restoration by summarizing the developing and existing condition within Chengdu’s context. By focusing on specific methods, together with the case studies of restoration concept and content, design principles and strategies, this paper discovers specific methods of street side residential buildings facade restoration in Chengdu’s context.
