People have begun to realize the importance of maintaining the strength ofnonstructural elements in a building, in consequence of the enormous earthquakedamage to persons and property. This paper gives a full review of the significant developments in the field ofseismic study for nonstructural components in the recent decades. Classification ofnonstructural elements and seismic response of different nonstructural elements areintroduced firstly. The provisions on seismic design of the non-structure componentin domestic and foreign related code are introduced and compared in the paper.Using ANSYS make elastic-plastic analysis of frame construction and get theprocess of the floor acceleration due to two sets of seismic waves, and establish theresponse spectrum of the floor. Input the response spectrums of different floors andnumerically simulate the response of DHS ceiling under earthquake to get the curvesof velocity, acceleration and displacement which help indicate the characteristics ofmovement of ceilings under earthquake. Meanwhile, using ANSYS simulate twokinds of ceilings to validate the improvement of the performance of seismicresistance due to45degrees suspension lines. Because fixing measures are not taken,free-standing equipments can easily be damaged or even cause serious secondarydisasters. ANSYS software is used to establish finite element model of free-standingequipment and analyze block contacted with the floor surface. The relationship ofslip response and the floor acceleration time, the friction coefficient preliminarilyshows the horizontal slip movement characteristic of the free-standing equipments. In case of earthquakes, the damages to nonstructural components easily happen.Taking appropriate seismic measures can limit damages to a certain extent, and therepair work is relatively easy and economic. This paper summarizes the details ofseismic design and gives a concrete illustration of building nonstructural components, piping system and equipments.
