The adsorptive capacity of coal columnar activated carbon to phenol in water was studied by the static adsorption experiments, and the effects of the quantity of coal columnar active carbon,pH value, and temperature on the adsorption of phenol were examined. The results showed that coal activated carbon adsorption of phenol optimum conditions are adsorption temperature of 333 K,adsorption time of 5 h,pH value of 5,and activated carbon dosage of 3.0 g.Fitting was conducted on the adsorption kinetics with quasi-two quasi Lagergren kinetic equation and Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm equation respectively. The results showed that the pseudo-second-order equation provided the best correlation to the data. The adsorption of coal-based activated carbon to phenol is not only controlled by intra-particle diffusion but also by extra-particle diffusion process. The combination of microwave irradiation and chemical method was adopted to regenerate the used activated carbon. The effects of regeneration time, microwave power, the amount of activated carbon, chemical release agent types and chemical desorption time on the activated carbon regeneration performance were investigated. The results show that coal-based activated carbon regeneration optimum conditions are as follows:the regeneration time for 4 min, microwave power of 595 W,activated carbon dosage 4.0 g,the desorbent combination of ethanol and sodium hydroxide, the desorption time of 2 h.Incorporating the practical wastewater treatment process and reactor kinetics model, the process of wastewater treatment containing phenol was simulated using mathematical simulation software MATLAB and Aspen plus the Adsorption module, by selecting the appropriate pre-test simulation time and other parameters. The simulated results were found to be consistent with the experimental results. The simulation can provide theoretical guidance for the practical application of activated carbon on the wastewater treatment.
