This dissertation discusses the models of industrial clusters upgrading from GVC perspective, combining the case of China’s auto industrial clusters upgrading models. Discussing upgrading models helps to overcome the difficulty of distinguishing different upgrading ways.There are four models of industrial clusters upgrading from GVC perspective: industrial cluster’s technical capability upgrading model, industrial cluster’s innovation capability upgrading model, industrial cluster’s outside correlation capability upgrading model and social capital capability upgrading model. These four upgrading models could measure the industrial clusters upgrading comprehensively.Inside upgrading includes technical capability and innovation capability, and outside upgrading includes outside correlation capability and social capital capability. The inside upgrading needs inner interaction and cooperation with the outside upgrading, which will promote industrial clusters upgrading more reasonably. Also there are four operation systems corresponding with the upgrading models. They are clusters learning, clusters innovation, insertion in GVC and social capital. The four operation systems not only affect the relevant upgrading model, but also affect the other models.At last, the dissertation analyses China’s auto industrial clusters upgrading models, focusing on the selection of upgrading models.
