The food safety issues occur frequently in recent years, such as Sanlu milk powderproblem, Shuanghui lean meat powder proplem, Guangzhou cadmium rice problem. Allthese has aroused the entire society the attention to food safety. Playing the role ofenvironmental monitoring, the mass media bear the responsibility for exposing andsupervising the problem of food industry. In general, the media has made great progressin food safety report, however, due to the factors of the market economy, the mediainternal mechanisms and the media practitioners themselves, there exist some problemsin the media, such as exaggeration, free warning and so on. Of all the media, the ChinaMetropolis Daily media reports, which close to the public livelihood, are more likely toaffect the senses of the public awareness.To this end, this article investigate the characteristics of food safety, and take“Beijing Times” and “Southern Metropolitan News” as samples to analyze presentingways of food safety reports and the problems in contents. Meanwhile, the articleanalyses the source of these problems, believing that such problems in food safetyreports should be recognized from enlarging the risk tendency in the media constructionprocess, and the lack of relevant policies, laws and other complicated constraints, notsimply attributed to the lack of social responsibility or other factors. In the end, thearticle put forward some constructive suggestions on how to optimize food safetyreports.
