Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) plays an important role in promoting the development of tele-medicine and mobile health. Currently, related research mainly focus on system architecture, but very few in security aspect. As a part of communications media, WBAN faces many security problems, such as loss of data, authentication and access control. Since the privacy medical data are transported by wireless, there will be illegal eavesdropping, tampering and damage of that data. There for, it is particularly important to ensure the security of health information. This paper studies the security mechanisms of biometric-based data translated in WBAN, which is background in tele-medicine applications. This mechanism extracts characteristic signal as the data encryption key from biometric data to be transmitted, and introduces individual identity tag number to protect the key and biometric data. It’s conducive to coordinator’s identity authentication of sensor nodes, makes sure the coordinator receive data from the same system, and reduces the probability of data losing during transmission by attackers. Meanwhile, this paper introduces Fuzzy Commitment into the security mechanism and improves it, which can ease the conflict between cryptography accuracy and biometric-based ambiguity. In addition, this paper designs a data frame format suitable for WBAN, introducing Hash algorithm as message digest, which is conducive to data integrity checking. This paper studies the generation, transmission, management, verification of encrypted key and encryption&decryption of biometric data, and conducts experiment in the platform of Simulink communication simulation platform. Finally, it analyzes the confidentiality, integrity, message authentication and error rate of the mechanism and verifies its feasibility.
