Currently, image tracking technology has broad application prospects in the aerospace and military fields, especially infrared imaging with high sensitivity can be advantages in night work, so it occupies an important strategic position in the field of image tracking.This paper designed of the infrared tracking system based on the DSP chip including the overall program design and hardware design, and the hardware design include a video image acquisition unit, the DSP tracking unit peripheral minimum system, the video output unit, an external memory unit, I2C unit and the communication unit. Subsequently, on the basis of the traditional matching tracking algorithm, this paper analyzed a correlation tracking algorithm based on frequency that proved its matching speed has been greatly improved through the simulation experiment. In addition, the paper studied differential Gaussian filter technology which is one method prior to conducting relevant matching filter. It shows this way can make the peak’s characteristics of best match position more evident through simulation.Finally, the matching tracking algorithm based on frequency were carried out on the system, and the experimental results are given to prove that the system can be feasible.
