With the rapid development of communication industry, cable becomes an important medium of transmission. But at present, the factors of human factors and natural disasters could directly threaten the safe operation of optical fiber communication network. Therefore, to strengthen the management of line patrolling is the key to avoid the occurrence of optical cable communication block. The traditional patrol inspection management is artificial way, the other way is to read the information button, although that played a certain role on improving the reliability of patrol inspection, there are have disadvantage of complex management and high cost. These problems bring a lot of inconvenience to the department management and line maintenance. Therefore, how to arrange the patrol inspection plan, effective assessment the situation of patrol inspection in place, to improve the quality of patrol inspection, reduce complexity of patrol inspection management, timely and accurate reporting of defects and other problems need to be solved in the patrol inspection work.In view of the domestic and foreign research status and development trend about optical inspection, this paper presents a more efficient inspection method, which is patrol inspection system of optical fiber cable line that based on the GPS. The system combines with GPS technology, using open source framework of Struts, to implement monitor management for the optical cable lines in wide area or local area and inspection work for related equipment. Has changed the traditional way of artificial management, to realize the scientific, effective management for line inspection situation of communication, it provides an auxiliary way on computer automation management. This paper gives a detailed description of whole design and realization process on patrol inspection system of optical fiber cable line that based on the GPS, First introduces the background and current research status, then based on the requirement acquisition and analysis to determine the design goal, designed the system technical architecture and functional structure, to detailed design and develop the database for each function module. Finally, elaborated the function module’s realization process of basic data management, patrol inspection management, application management, data query, data statistics, knowledge base, system management that happened in system management process of GPS cable line patrol inspection, to complete the development of the whole system after the system testing.The system realizes the function of GPS based cable inspection, on the basis of perfect function to make the greatest efforts to ensure the safety of the system, Through the operation of the system, greatly improving the efficiency of person on cable patrol inspection, effective supervision and inspection the inspection quality, to records, statistics and analysis on the patrol inspection content, effectively reduce the optical fiber communication failure occurs, guarantee the line safe running. The system realizes the digital and intelligent on management bring a great convenience to the cable patrol monitoring and management.
