Research On The Road Traffic Sign Recognition System Based On ARM

With the society and economy development, modern road traffic has been very well developed, however, traffic safety has become a growing concerned social problem. So, people begin to seek using information technology to assist in solving traffic safety problem. Intelligent Transport Systems have come into being in this research field. The road traffic sign recognition system is an important component of the intelligent transportation system. At the same time, with the progress of machine vision technology and embedded systems, it also accelerates the road traffic sign recognition system.This paper main research is the recognition study of the prohibition symbol in the road traffic signs, and it bases on the ARM microprocessor. Namely the use of ARM to complete a series such as image acquisition, image enhancement, image segmentation, image recognition and other operations. First, the paper describes the structural characteristics of the hardware platform and principle functions, studied the ARM processor S3C2440A chip realization of the function, and the structural characteristics of OV7960CMOS image sensor, and other peripheral circuits, complete hardware platform to build debug.Combined with the characteristics of the Linux operating system, implement system of the transplant, and the basic image acquisition.Secondly, for image processing, in the intensity channel to enhance image by histogram, that is to solve the image problem of the distortion caused by light. Since this test road signs for the prohibition signs, its color (red) and shape (round) obvious characteristics, so image segmentation is based on the above two features in order to extract the object of interest. And image recognition is completed by the extraction of invariant image feature using Hu invariant moments. Finally, ARM embedded platform road sign recognition system experiments were carried out to verify the system, it has good recognizability.
