One of the urgent tasks for higher education reform is to comprehensively promotequality education of college students, in which laboratories play an important role. Atpresent, the experimental teaching management of many vocational colleges still followsthe traditional laboratory management mode, which lacks autonomy and flexibility andseriously affects the outcome of experimental teaching.In this paper, a new reservation management system for open laboratories is designedbased on B/S structure to solve the above problems. The development model employsMVC three-tier framework technology to improve the maintainability and scalability ofthe system. The system employs Apache as the Web server, the software employsThinkPHP as development framework based on PHP language, and the backgrounddatabase employs MySQL, the perfect partner for PHP language. Based on the overallneeds of laboratory management and the actual management situation, the reservationmanagement system consists of three role function modules, i.e. background administratormodule, front teacher module and front student module. In the background administratormodule, the main task is to carry out curriculum administration, to set up experimentalprojects and the batch settings etc. according to the teaching arrangement issued by theAcademic Affairs Office. In the front teacher module, the main task of teachers is todetermine the time, place and other basic information of the experiments based on thebatch settings set up by the administrator, to download and browse the experimentalcurriculum and the information of the students who have made a reservation, and to marklab reports etc. In the front student module, students browse, reserve or cancel theexperiments according to their actual situation. The three function modules are notindependent, but complementary and interconnected as a unified whole. The reservationsystem fully considers the safety performance. In addition to the traditional loginauthentication, security technologies are employed in the registry, e.g. verification code,database security design,the security configuration and optimization for the environmentof hardware and software.The system designed in the paper has changed the traditional mode of laboratorymanagement. The timing of teachers and students can be more autonomous and flexibleand they can be more proactive in the whole teaching and learning process, whichimproves the effectiveness of both teaching and learning. Meanwhile it can reduce the labor intensity of laboratory management and improve the level and efficiency ofexperimental teaching management. In short, the system will have a positive effect on thequality education of college students.
