Cognitive radio increases spectrum utilization and communication quality withopportunistic spectrum access capability and adaptability to the channel conditions, these salient features can also be exploited in resource-constrained sensor networks. Moreover, multiple channel availability provided by cognitive radio capabilities canbe used to overcome the problems caused by the dense deployment and burstingcommunication nature of sensor networks. We discussed advantages and limitationsof CRSN and explored the applicability of the existing networking solutions forcognitive radio and sensor networks in CRSN along with their shortcomings. In the light of the insufficient bandwidth issues that may occur in the CRSNapplications, proposed a CRSN channel bonding scheme. Analyzed channeloccupancy models and proposed Poisson-normal approximation distribution model, and classified the available channels. Taking networks and channel bonding model ofcognitive radio sensor networks in hospital environment as an example, fourstrategies of channel bonding are proposed from different point of view to reducenodes’ energy cost. According to the simulation it is proved that, the four strategiescan reduce the nodes’ average energy cost in different degrees respectively.Especially, sensor nodes’ average energy cost reduced obviously when the fourstrategies comprehensively used.In the light of the limited resources and the dynamic spectrum distribution in theCRSN, A half duplex Multi-channel broadcast protocol for CRSN is proposed basedon the Home Channel theory. In the absence of the common channel and clocksynchronization, the proposed protocol initializes the network through the transitionsof the sending and receiving state of the single transceiver and the exchanges of thechannel table. After network initialization, the topology of nodes is formed based onhome channel. Node broadcast through home channel based on half duplex datatransfer mode. According to the simulation it is proved that, compared with completebroadcast, the proposed protocol effectively improves the success rate of broadcastand reduces broadcast delay and overhead, gets better performance in practicalapplication of CRSN.
