In recent years, as traffic safety and congestion issues has become more and moreprominent, intelligent transportation has got increasing attentions. Vehicle wirelesscommunication system, which uses IEEE802.11p as the underlying protocol, is an importantexpansion in new areas and applications of wireless LAN technology. IEEE802.11p protocolis an underlying protocol specifically used in outdoor high-speed mobile environment. Thephysical layer uses orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulationtechnique with a high band efficiency and good resistance to multipath interference, whichprovides a good assurance for the vehicle wireless communication system and makes thehigh-speed moving high data transfer services between different vehicles possible. In addition, the programmable logic devices FPGA has been widely used in digital system design with itscharacters of flexible structure, high integration and wide use range.Based on IEEE802.11p protocol,we did some in-depth study under the basic principles ofOFDM transmission systems. Combined with a top-down FPGA design methods, we gives adetailed hardware implementation of OFDM transmission system. The main jobs in this thesisare showed in follow:Firstly, I introduced the key parameter settings of IEEE802.11p physical layer and the keytechnologies of OFDM system briefly before made decision of parameters selection in thisstudy.Secondly, during the FPGA implementation process, I showed the detailed block diagramdesign of each module in the first place; then, combined with the FPGA design methods, Iused Verilog HDL hardware description language to realize the transmitting terminal and partof the receiving terminal of OFDM system in XilinxISE13.1development environment. Finally, after the functional simulation of each modules design had been realized in thesimulation environment Modelsim10.0c software, I downloaded the design code into XilinxFPGA series Spartan-3E for system test and used Xilinx ChipScope Pro13.1for the onlinereal-time verification. Online simulation and verification results show that the design of the OFDMcommunication system can be substantially complete the function of each module and thesimulation results are just as same as the on-line test results of each sub-module.
