From the D&G photo shoot early this year, Qingdong Kong’s dog theory and pregnant mainlanders giving birth in Hong Kong, the contradiction between this two places has brought about successive bombing and stimulation to both media and readers. The current events, however, is the culmination of a long process of Hong Konger’s discontent towards mainlanders. This discontent is closely related to the Hong Kong’s economic fluctuation in the past twenty years and the complicated relationship between people on both sides.Newspapers, as reflection and direction of public opinion, reflect and build a basic impression for the Hong Kongers to the1.3billion mainlanders.Through the analysis of Hong Kong Wen Wei Po’s publication from1995to2012, which covers before the handover of Hong Kong, five years after the handover and nine years DIY tour, this article summarized what kind of the image of the mainland population has the Wen Wei Po built.Study found that, before the handover, the most frequently appeared images of the mainlanders on the newspaper were audacious stowaways and conservative garrison. Five years since the handover, vulnerable mainland residents in Hong Kong, high-spending-powers tourists and greedy snakeheads were the highlight of the media. In the nine years DIY tour, OWP woman’s image is always strong purpose and extreme behavior. The image of smugglers are often unscrupulous. The images of Non-citizenship pregnant women and Mainland guests are changing in the news report. During2005, the image of Non-citizenship pregnant women were huge number and low quality. At2008, the total number of the Non-citizenship pregnant women is descend, but they were always described as rude and unreasonable. When it comes to the mainland tourists, before2005, they have been described as the cheapskates, but now sweep goods and extravagant shopping become their symbol. After2009, there have been more and more reports about mainlander tourists hit their guide and made threatening phone calls.
