In recent years, the wireless sensor network (WSN) has been developed rapidlyand is widely applied to various fields. ZigBee technology becomes one of the mostimportant wireless transmission technologies because of its unique advantages, androuting protocol of ZigBee technology is of great importance to the network routingefficiency and energy consumption, therefore ZigBee routing protocols also become aresearch emphasis of wireless sensor network. This paper makes some improvementsof AODVjr routing protocol based on its research and simulation analysis, and getsmeaningful results in the end.The thesis firstly outlines the research background, the characteristics anddevelopment situation of wireless sensor network (WSN). In addition, it introducesthe layer’s specification of ZigBee stack, and focus on network topology structure andestablishment process of the new network. Secondly, it introduces the contents ofAODVjr protocol and NS2simulation platform, including its architecture components,auxiliary tools, etc. Then it builds a simulation platform to simulate and analyze theperformance index of AODVjr protocol. Finally, this thesis presents an improvedrouting algorithm: adding a flag to RREQ in order to control its direction ofpropagation; dividing the nodes’ residual energy into different states in order to reduceenergy consumption of the nodes.The simulation results show that the improved algorithm has lower energyconsumption of network compared with the original algorithm, and can effectivelycontrol the RREQ’s direction, thus improves the performance of the whole wirelessnetwork.
