In the early1980s, with the transformation of China’s planned economy system tothe market economy system, the development of education, science, culture and therapid growth in demand for the book publishing, the vanity publication appeared. Sincethe vanity publication appeared in our country, a large number of scholarly works,commemorative books and reading through the publication has been officially publishedby this method. In general, the economic benefits of the vanity publishing books arecapital preservation or low-profit, or even negative. But its social benefits can’t beignored. The high-quality vanity publishing books can promote academic progress,accumulate and heritage excellent culture. There are some problems in the vanitypublication now, for example, the vanity publication changes into trading ISBN, therange of the vanity publication is expanding, the vanity publication of academic worksare not standardized sometimes, and the vanity publication’ object is dislocated. Theseproblems have great relationships with the imperfect supervision and managementmechanism of the vanity publishing books. Therefore, in order to solve these problems,this paper studies the supervision and management mechanism of the vanity publishingbooks. The author tries to put forward some suggestions that can make the vanitypublishing books get good economic and social benefits and improve the supervisionand management mechanism.This paper is divided into five main parts.The first part is the first chapter. It outlines the main research background, purposeand significance of the research, domestic and international progress on the theory,innovations and difficulties, research methods.The second chapter is the second part of the paper. It outlines the development,definition and characteristics of the vanity publication. It discusses the differencesbetween the vanity publication and trading ISBN. It studies the connotation andevaluation of the economic and social benefits of the vanity publication.The third part is the third chapter of the paper. It analyzes the economic and socialbenefits of the vanity publishing books. It points out the problems in the vanitypublication and analyzes the reasons causing the problems.The fourth chapter is the fourth part of the paper. It studies the supervision andmanagement mechanism of the vanity publication. It points out the problems in the vanity publishing and put forward some suggestions that can improve the supervisionand management mechanism.The fifth part is the fifth chapter. It uses case study method. It uses a vanitypublishing book named painting and calligraphy art Chronicle of Chongqing during theAnti-Japanese War published by Chongqing University Press as a case to describe itswhole publishing process and analyze its economic and social benefits.
