As a kind of functional material, plastic film has been widely used in packaging,agriculture, industry and other fields. Accompanied with the expansion of applicationscope, the demand of plastic film is gradually increasing, its production scale is alsoexpanding. The film thickness is one of the important physical indexes of filmquality and production and which related to the film production costs and theeconomic benefits of the enterprise. The non-contact measurement of the filmthickness has become an urgent task for manufacturing enterprises.This dissertation studies and summarizes the advantages and disadvantages ofseveral thickness measuring methods from the current Chinese film thicknessmeasuring technology development situation. A high accuracy of measurement, highsafety, low price, easy maintenance of the thin-film thickness on-line measurementsystem was developed and the transmission method for measuring film thickness wasproposed in this dissertation.The hardware design and software implementation of the thin-film thickness on-line measurement system were described in detail. The actuating mechanism wasdesigned in the hardware design."O" type scanning rack structure design, lightingdesign, power meter selection and PLC control system design was included in theactuating mechanism. PLC and PC program design was described in softwareimplementation. The Mitsubishi PLC programming software GX developer was usedfor PLC program design. Visual C++6.0programming environment was used for thehost computer software design. RS-232was adopted to communicate with hostcomputer, to realize real-time, rapid, accurate measurement of thin-film thickness.Through the actual measurement and data analysis, thin-film thickness on-linemeasurement system fully meets the enterprises’ requirements in response time,measurement repeatability, stability and precision. At the same time, the system isconvenient to operate, easy to maintain, with data safety and high reliability. It canreach the industry standard, with large application value.
